What do Parents/Families/Carers understand, need, or want to know about MenB vaccines?

What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this study is to learn what parents, family members, carers, or others understand, need or want to know about Invasive Meningococcal Disease (IMD), especially MenB and meningitis vaccines and how to improve the ways information is provided. We want to know what information you would most value about vaccination, IMD and MenB, as well as who you would like to receive this information from, and in what format. By understanding more about what information is most important to you as well as the ways you would most like to receive information, we hope to address parental uncertainty by making sure the best and most appropriate evidence is available to everyone involved in vaccine decision making.

About IMD/ MenB

Invasive Meningococcal Disease or IMD refers to illness that is caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis. IMD can include infections of the lining of the brain and spinal cord and bloodstream and may result in death or severe long-term consequences. Meningitis B or MenB is one type of IMD, caused by one strain of Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. Although there are some risk factors for IMD that have been identified, patterns of disease outbreak and infection remain unpredictable and vaccination against IMD may be the best protection at this time.

Who can participate?

You can participate in the study if:

  • You have a previous history or lived experience of IMD, MenB and/or MenB vaccination (e.g., parents, family members, carers, or others).

What will I be expected to do?

You will be asked to participate in an interview that will last 45 to 60-minutes. The interview will be completed by telephone or a web-based platform (e.g., Zoom) at a date and time that is convenient for you. You will be offered reimbursement for your time, participation and to pay for any internet or phone costs.
