Title:
Community Outreach Workers
Reporting Structure:
The Community Outreach Workers report to the Study Project Manager at CCfV.
Job Purpose:
The Community Outreach Workers will provide support in meeting objectives of the research study titled “Improving Childhood Immunization Coverage among Priority Populations in Nova Scotia.”
Scope:
The Community Outreach Workers will facilitate the administration and assessment of the adapted Childhood National Immunization Coverage Survey (CNICS) in regions across Nova Scotia. This includes but is not limited to travelling door-to-door to ask public citizens to participate in the CNICS.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in onboarding activities for CCfV and study-specific training
- Travel the specified region (up to 500 km over the duration of employment), visiting the homes of potential participants based on pre-identified Statistics Canada data
- Access to vehicle and valid driver’s licence required; mileage will be compensated
- Going door-to-door, approaching public citizens at home in order to ask if they would like to complete the study survey
- Administer surveys to participants daily/weekly to meet study participant engagement goals
- Complete consent process with participants
- Answer participant questions regarding consent, privacy, and confidentiality
- Assist participants, as needed, while they complete the survey
Experience and Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
- Applicants must have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
- Experience with community engagement/volunteer work preferred
- Fluency in a second language is considered an asset
- Experience with Qualtrics XM survey software considered an asset
- Experience in communications in a research or community setting considered an asset
- Experience with practice and understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, and other related issues, including their intersectionality with other social and structural determinants of health
- Excellent and thoughtful communication and interpersonal skills; able to speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
- Able to establish a meaningful connection with community-members in person
- Ability to build rapport and resiliency to deal with rejection without becoming discouraged
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude, professional, self-driven and a willingness to learn
- Being reliable and flexible to work evenings and some weekends as needed
- Ability to travel extensively, work outdoors, walk and stand for long periods
- Able to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that augment overall project success
- Demonstrate a high level of time management skills and decision-making skills regarding project deadlines and milestones
- Highly organized and able to multi-task when needed
- Able to work successfully both independently and with a project team
- Strong attention to detail
Start Date:
May 1st, 2025 (4-month/16-week contract)
Pay Rate:
$26.37 per hour plus 4% vacation in lieu
Hours of Work:
An average of 5 hours per week, with some flexibility as required
