News and Events CIRN

As part of the Vaccine Co-Pay Study, you and/or your child may be eligible to receive the Nasal Spray Flu vaccine at no cost for children aged 2 to 17. The vaccine administration fee will also be fully covered.

Purpose

This study is exploring how a co-payment model, where the cost of these vaccines is shared between the individual and the study, might be accepted or put in place.

About Participating Locations

The Nasal Spray Flu vaccine is offered at no cost at the following pharmacies in Nova Scotia:

  • Boyd’s Pharmasave, 2525 Agricola Street, Halifax
  • City Drug Pharmachoice, 369 Main Street, Yarmouth
  • Lawtons Amherst, 2 Lawrence Street, Amherst
  • Pharmasave Pictou, 33 Water Street, Pictou

Participation Criteria

Pharmacies will invite individuals aged 2-17 years into the study who are already eligible for the vaccine as part of routine care based on the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) guidelines. Those invited can’t already have private insurance to pay for all (or most) of the vaccine. Pharmacists will follow their usual practice and only give vaccines approved by Health Canada and recommended by NACI.

Participation Details

If you/your dependent (e.g., a child in your care) is eligible for the vaccine (as decided with the pharmacist) and you want to take part in the pilot study, you will need to:

  • read the study information sheet and consent form;
  • ask the pharmacy team any questions;
  • give your consent for you/your dependent to receive the vaccine at a reduced cost through the “co-payment model” if eligible;
  • the vaccine will then be given to you/your dependent in the pharmacy by providers who are trained to provide vaccines; and
  • complete a 15-minute online survey while in the pharmacy about your overall experiences with the co-payment model.

If interested in taking part in this study

Ask a pharmacist at one of the listed locations for details.

The pharmacy team will determine if you are eligible to receive the vaccine at a reduced cost and answer any questions you may have.
