Phase 2 clinical trial of a Haemophilus influenzae serotype a (Hia) vaccine in adults

An investigational vaccine against Haemophilus influenzae serotype A (Hia) will be tested in this study in healthy individuals from the general population. The study aims to determine the safety and immunogenicity (effectiveness) of the vaccine.

Haemophilus influenzae serotype A (Hia) is a type of bacteria that can cause serious illness. Another type of this bacteria, Serotype B (Hib) was a leading cause of meningitis and other illnesses such as pneumonia and bloodstream infections in children until a Hib vaccine was introduced worldwide. Hia can cause similar illness.

This study is looking for volunteers who:

• Are aged 18-65 years
• Are in good health
• Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 32 or less
• Agree to practice adequate birth control if they can become pregnant

A member of the study team will go over additional eligibility requirements with you during the screening process.

This study involves:

• 2 injections in the upper arm at in-person clinic visits. These injections will be either the study vaccine or a saltwater (saline) injection. You will not know which type of injection you received.
• 8 in-person clinic visits in Halifax and 4 follow-up phone calls over 7 months
• Tracking any symptoms or side effects with a paper diary card
